SECRET AJUY: CLIFFS, FOSSILS AND BLACK SAND
SECRET AJUY: CLIFFS,

SECRET AJUY: CLIFFS, FOSSILS AND BLACK SAND

In a nutshell

Ready to step back into the prehistoric era? In Ajuy, you won't just find a picturesque village, but a journey through time that will take you back 150 million years. From the caves sculpted by the ocean to the cliffs that tell the story of the birth of Fuerteventura, and the spectacular Jurado Arch. And to finish, relax in the village with its black sand beach. A wild, surprising experience, where every step narrates an ancient story.

Main stops
  • Hiking among rocks and volcanic landscapes.
  • Visit to the Cuevas de Ajuy and the Jurado Arch.
  • Discovery of the oldest fossils on the Canary Islands.
  • Break in the village of Ajuy and its black sand beach.

The programme

Forget the usual routes: here, you're walking alongside the history of the earth. In Ajuy, the hike begins among the caves carved out by the ocean, a real natural theater where the geology is the star of the show. Then, you'll follow the jagged coastline, with the waves breaking beneath your feet and the wind reminding you of who's in charge here: the Atlantic.

The key stop? The Jurado Arch: a rocky giant that holds fossils that date back more than 150 million years, from when Fuerteventura was just an idea at the bottom of the ocean. These relics make dinosaurs look like something from the recent past.

Then, you'll end on a high, as you head back to the village of Ajuy: white houses, ocean views and a black sand beach that looks like something out of a movie. Here, time slows down, and you can finally take a breath.
