As your coach ascends the hill, you¿ll soon be welcomed by whitewashed houses and narrow streets lined with arches, each step unveiling a deeper connection to the village¿s rich history.<-p> Once in Ano Syros, your time will be divided between a guided walk and some free time to explore at your own pace. Follow your guide through the village¿s famous labyrinthine alleyways. Pass by ancient houses perched on the hillside, offering breathtaking views across the island. Along the route, your guide will share fascinating stories about the village¿s past as you make your way to the highest point, where the Church of St. George stands proudly.<-p> The medieval atmosphere is wonderfully preserved here, with winding lanes and stunning vistas around every corner. Next, head downhill towards the city centre, passing the Monument to the Unknown Soldier and more splendid neoclassical buildings.<-p> Enjoy a brief visit to the Apollon Theatre, Greece¿s first opera house, before wandering along marble-paved streets to Miaoulis Square, the vibrant heart of Ermoupolis, dominated by the grand Town Hall, a symbol of the city¿s historical grandeur.<-p> Take a moment to soak up the lively atmosphere before exploring the bustling market, where local vendors offer fresh produce, seafood, and artisanal goods. The guided tour concludes with a visit to the Church of the Dormition, home to a beautiful icon painted by the renowned El Greco.<-p> After the tour, you may return to the port or choose to stay longer to enjoy some free time for shopping, coffee, or a leisurely lunch. A SCENIC TOUR OF SYROS: FROM CHURCHES TO SEASIDE VILLAGES
Excursion Details<-strong><-p> Begin with a short drive from the pier to the Church of the Assumption, a significant religious site on Syros. Spend around 20 minutes inside the church, admiring the original Assumption icon painted by El Greco, as well as the exquisite architecture.<-p> Next, enjoy a scenic drive through several picturesque seaside villages, including Azolimnos, Vari, Megas Gialos, and Galissas. These quaint villages provide stunning views of the Aegean Sea and offer a glimpse into authentic local life.<-p> Upon arriving in Poseidonia, pause for a brief photo opportunity at a striking 19th-century mansion set among pine trees, overlooking breathtaking coastal views.<-p> Continue to Finikas, where you¿ll have approximately 45 minutes of free time to explore this peaceful village at your own pace - whether strolling through its streets or relaxing by the sea.<-p> Your final stop is Kini, where you will visit the St. Barbara Monastery for about 20 minutes. UNGUIDED TRANSFER TO GALISSAS BEACH
Important Information: the excursion operates from June until the end of September and is subject to weather conditions. Swimming is at guests¿ own risk as no lifeguard is on duty at the beach. This tour does not include sunbeds-parasols that can be hired on the beach subject to availability. We recommend wearing swimwear and a hat and bringing sunscreen and a towel. Please note that the fee for landing ashore is not included in the excursion price.<-p>
ERMOUPOLIS & TEXTILE MUSEUM: HISTORICAL AND INDUSTRIAL HERITAGE
Excursion details<-strong><-p> Your journey begins with a short walk from the port through Ermoupolis¿ neoclassical streets, passing through the historic Customs building and lively shopping district.<-p> Arrive at the charming Vaporia quarter, renowned for its sea-facing mansions that once belonged to ship captains and merchants. Here, you will visit the majestic St. Nicholas Church (15 minutes), a centerpiece of local Orthodox heritage. Continue with a stroll toward the city centre, passing the Monument of the Unknown Soldier and many 19th-century neoclassical buildings until reaching Apollon Theatre for a short visit. Known as Greece¿s first opera house, you can admire its Italian-inspired architecture.<-p> Next, proceed to Miaoulis Square, the heart of Ermoupolis, home to the impressive Town Hall designed by Ernst Ziller. Stroll through the bustling marketplace, where local producers offer fresh vegetables, fish, and other specialities. Visit the Church of the Dormition (15 minutes), which houses an original icon painted by the acclaimed El Greco.<-p> The tour continues to the restored ¿Zisimatos Bros¿ textile factory, now the Textile Museum Here, for 90 minutes immerse yourself in Syros¿ industrial past through guided stories from former workers, and enjoy a traditional snack served around a communal table.<-p> At the end of the tour, you may return with your guide to the port or choose to explore Ermoupolis further at your leisure.<-p> Important Information:<-strong>limited number of guides in languages other than English.
