Begin this excursion with a 60-minute transfer to Lindos, the island s picturesque citadel overlooking St Paul s Bay. During a two-hour visit, learn about its history from a guide and explore the paved streets of this fortified city, which was founded by the Dorians sometime around the 10th century.<-p>

The two-hour visit also includes free time, which could be used to shop for souvenirs in the stores and boutiques lining Lindos narrow alleys, after visiting the Acropolis of Lindos, with its temples, tombs and Byzantine chapels.<-p>

Afterwards, a 30-minute transfer moves the excursion to a ceramics factory. Potters from Rhodes were known throughout the ancient world for their skill, and this tradition lives on today. During the 30-minute factory visit, view a demonstration by local potters and find out more about this delicate process, followed by the chance to buy some of these decorative wares. The excursion concludes with a one-hour transfer back to the port at Rhodes.<-p>

Start this journey back through time by disembarking the ship and boarding a coach for a 60-minute city sightseeing, enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding scenery. <-p>

Arrive at the Old Town in style, entering through the medieval walls of D Amboise Gate. A section of two and a half hours now begins, encompassing a guided visit of this historical area, including a visit to the Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes. Learn more about this magnificent palace, which was constructed in the 14th century by the Knights of Saint John, before the main part of the excursion ends. <-p>

There s now the opportunity to enjoy some free time, which could be used for browsing and buying in the area s maze of shopping streets (which house local arts and craft shops) or further exploration of the Old Town s countless sights. Afterwards, make the short journey back to the port on foot, which takes less than 15 minutes. <-p>

A one-hour sightseeing bus tour beginning at the port and ending at D Amboise Gate - which connects to the city s fortified walls - is the starting point to this journey into Rhodes medieval Old Town. Admire the scenic views on route before embarking on a two-and-a-half-hour guided tour, which will unveil some of the UNESCO-listed area s stories and secrets. <-p>

One of the key stops on the guided tour is a visit to the Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes, an incredible structure built by the Knights Hospitaller in the 14th century, restored to its former glory after an explosion from nearby stored gunpowder during the 19th century. <-p>

After the informative tour, enjoy some free time to further explore the atmospheric Old Town, perhaps wandering its tangled streets and browsing at local shops, or maybe settling-in to a cafe for a well-earned coffee. Finally, make the short journey back to the port (approximately 10 minutes on foot) to conclude the excursion. <-p>

EXPLORE LINDOS ON YOUR OWN

EXPLORE LINDOS ON YOUR OWN

Located about an hour s coach drive from the port of Rhodes, Lindos, with its striking white houses, is often considered one of the most beautiful towns on the island. Once you arrive in the town, you will have approx. 3 hours to discover it at your own pace. There is no shortage of places to visit: from the acropolis, to the temple of Athena, to the remains of the Knights castle, if you are interested in history and culture. But you can also decide to lose yourself in the narrow streets of the town with its numerous bars and restaurants or take a swim in the sea by going down to the small beach to the south of the town. But since this excursion allows you to follow your desires while discovering Lindos, the choice is yours alone. Remember to respect the time and the meeting point to catch the coach that will take you back to the port and the ship.

Please note: this excursion only includes transfers to and from Lindos. In the summer months, if you wish to swim, we recommend that you wear a swimming costume under your clothes and bring a beach towel and sunscreen. To reach the acropolis you need to climb about 300 steps.<-p>

Discover the highlights of the beautiful island of Rhodes during a leisurely sightseeing tour by coach. Your guide will tell you some stories of the old town of Rhodes during the tour and as you pass by the medieval walls in front of the port of Mandraki en route to Mount Smith. A stop will allow you to admire and photograph beautiful views of Lindos, one of the centres of ancient Greek civilisation. Admire the beautiful views of the white "sugar cube" houses of the charming village and the bay of St Paul. The next stop will be a pottery workshop to discover how local artists make traditional handicrafts- the stop is also an opportunity to buy a souvenir. The tour ends with the return to the port but if you want to be a little freer and explore Rhodes Old Town, choose to leave the guide, and discover Rhodes at a more relaxed pace. You will return to the port later on your own.

Please note: the tour does not include internal visits or a visit to the village of Lindos, which is only admired from afar. Guests who decide to stay in town will have to make their own way back to the port. <-p>

Your half-day excursion begins by boarding the coach at the port to reach the hill where the Acropolis of Rhodes stands. Here an initial stop outside the site will allow you to admire and photograph its columns, against the backdrop of the view of the Old Town and the Aegean Sea. Afterwards, get back onto the coach and admire the landscape of cypress, pine, and oak trees as you cross the plateau of Filerimos. Here a short walk will take you to a large concrete cross, the twelfth station of the Stations of the Cross. Keep your camera handy because the place allows you to admire the landscape along the valley all the way to the sea. And with a bit of luck, you may come across some peacocks that will enrich your photo gallery. Back in Rhodes, leave the coach and follow the guide inside the medieval walls of the old town, strolling along the famous Street of the Knights. The tour ends with a return to the port.

The programme
  • From the city of Rhodes, we will reach an enchanting park on the western coast of the island * a Valley of the Butterflies. The valley is the resting place of thousands of butterflies of the rare genus, which can be seen on tree trunks and even on rocks from June to September. This area is ideal for butterflies because many different species of trees are found there, such as pines, plane trees and rushes. As we walk along the paths, we can observe the wonderful creatures that migrate to this valley with the sole purpose of mating, as the area offers the ideal habitat. It is the females who take care of the eggs, thus guaranteeing the survival of the species on the island.
  • The lakes, a small waterfall and a wooden staircase will accompany us throughout the valley * from the lower area, where we will enter, to the higher, with the greater concentration of butterflies waiting for the cooler temperature of the night to start mating.
  • After a few hours surrounded by unspoilt nature, we will head back to Rhodes to visit the remains of its old Acropolis. The coach will leave us near one of the entrances of the old city, the D'Amboise Gate, which was once used to communicate with the villages located along the western coast. We will discover the marvels of the city on foot along the Knights Road, passing Medieval buildings, towers, garrisons and gates that were built in the 15th century by the Knights of the Order of Saint John.

Next, wander down the Street of the Knights and discover the Inns of the Seven Tongues, with their Gothic facades and details that still give off an air of nobility.   • The first stop on our tour is Mount Smith, which we will reach by coach to admire the ruins of the temple of Apollo and enjoy the amazing panoramic view of Rhodes and the surrounding scenery.
  • We will then head back to the city and cross the D'Amboise Gate to reach the highest point of the Medieval city with its sumptuous interiors and a courtyard decorated with Roman statues. The Palace was built in the 15th century, but was destroyed by an explosion in 1856. It was rebuilt by the Italians to host Mussolini and Victor Emmanuel III. The palace is decorated with fantastic mosaics dating back to Roman times and originating from the other islands of the archipelago.
  • Afterwards, we will walk along the narrow, steep and cobbled Knights Road, which still exudes an aura of nobility to this day. We will see the many "Inns of the Knights of Seven Languages", elegant Gothic buildings where the Knights of the Order of St. John and the pilgrims headed to Jerusalem could stay according to their country of origin. We will admire the Gothic decorations, arched windows, terrace roofs and flat honey-coloured façades.

  • 56 km from the city of Rhodes, we will find Lindos, the 'gem of the island', a charming town characterised by a maze of cobbled streets and characteristic 16th-century white houses that house typical local taverns and shops. We will wander around the maze of alleys and savour the atmosphere away from the chaos and traffic, as cars are not allowed.
  • We will then continue towards the promontory, where we will find the Acropolis with its colonnade, the temple of Athena and the remains of the Sacred Way. The view is truly breathtaking, stretching from the citadel to the sea and to the surrounding bays.
  • Before leaving this gem, we will have the chance to take a look at the shops for souvenirs.
  • For lunch, we will stop at a fantastic hotel on our way to Rhodes to taste the local dishes.
  • Once in Rhodes, our first stop is the old city * we will walk along the Knights Road, a true 'open-air museum' dating back to the Gothic period, and reach the Palace of the Grand Master, an imposing fortress with magnificent mosaics dating back to Roman times.

Our local guide accompanies us to discover the treasures of the Acropolis, such as the temple of Athena, dating back to the sixth century BC.C., and the church of the Virgin Mary in Gothic-Provencal style erected by the Knights of St. John.• We walk through the stages of a suggestive Via Crucis and reach an immense and powerful cross 18 meters high.   • We will leave the port of Mandraki by coach to reach Mount Smith, which dominates the city of Rhodes. From here, the view is truly amazing, stretching from the city to the cobalt blue sea.

  • Our excursion will continue towards the 'gem of the island' * Lindos, one of the three ancient cities of Rhodes, on the road along the eastern coast of the island and admire the fantastic panoramic views. Once in Lindos, we will be charmed by the group of white houses dominated by the marvellous Acropolis surrounded by the turquoise sea. We will stroll around the maze of alleys and stop in one of the many cafés or wander around the shops.

Our excursion will begin with a beautiful overview from the bus of the east coast, dotted with small and picturesque villages, passing through which we will savor the delicious air, pervaded by the wonderful scent of orange and lemon groves, vineyards and ancient, gnarled olive trees.During the tour, we will have the opportunity to climb the peak of the Acropolis and, once at the top, we will visit the Doric temple of Athena Lindia dating back to the 4th century BC, a double portico, a Byzantine church, the fortifications of the Knights and the vestiges of the Governor's residence. From the top of the Acropolis we will be able to admire a breathtaking panorama, while at our feet we will be able to see the Bay of San Paolo, where, it is said, the Apostle landed in the year 51 AD. to spread Christianity among the inhabitants of Rhodes.The wonderful city, with its old white houses and narrow streets, is located under the Acropolis: its beauty has always been a source of inspiration for artists and writers.After the visit to Lindos, we will have some time for a swim at Tsampika beach. We will find at our disposal deck chairs and umbrellas.After the swim, we will return to the dock in Rhodes, following the same picturesque route.
