The programme

Day 1 – Bye bye Hollywood, hello Las Vegas and the countdown to the New Year

You'll leave Los Angeles while the city still sleeps. The palm trees fade into the background, the road lies ahead and the Mojave Desert takes center stage. You're on to something big.

Hours on the road that slip by effortlessly, then all of a sudden you'll reach: Las Vegas. When you go into the city, you'll realize the rules are different here. You'll have lunch at the legendary Bellagio Hotel & Casino, with its iconic fountains and statement luxury, then there's a few hours to explore your surroundings.

There's no need to think about what to do in the evening: the city will decide for you. Have dinner at the hotel, and then head out to Las Vegas Strip, where New Year's Eve is an event for everyone together. Concerts, lights, an international crowd, fireworks that illuminate the desert sky. The new year is not ushered in slowly. But welcomed in great style. It's not just New Year's Eve. It's the official start of the trip.

Day 2 – Start the New Year from the top of the Grand Canyon

When you wake up, you'll have just one goal: the Grand Canyon. You'll leave early and take the road heading towards one of the biggest and most powerful wonders of the world. And it's not just to look at: you can fly over it in a helicopter if you like.

From high up, the canyon is immense, silent, hypnotic. Its contours recount millions of years of changes and put everything into perspective, including the year that has just begun.

Back on land, the pace changes. You'll have lunch directly overlooking South Rim, where sitting down to eat is part of the visit too.In the afternoon, you'll reach Williams, an authentic town along the iconic Route 66, nestling among the Pine Mountains. See its vintage signs, enjoy the atmosphere like a film and a sincere welcome. You'll have dinner at the restaurant and then relax: you're officially in 'America on the road'.

Day 3 – Route 66: when the route is the destination

Today, it's not the miles that count, but the stories. You'll follow Route 66, the real road, the one depicted in vintage postcards. You'll go past Kingman, where the route is very much a living memory, and then stop at Seligman, vibrant and nostalgic, to take in every single detail: the murals, the old diners, the motels that seem to be from a film.

A stop off for lunch at Barstow is all part of the experience. Here the culture route is still real.In the late afternoon, you'll reach Bakersfield, a no-frills town, to rest after a day where you realized why this route has become legendary. You'll have dinner close to the hotel and then it's time for some rest: tomorrow new horizons await.

Day 4 – The Ocean, the wind and the perfect place to end your trip

You'll leave the interior and head towards the Pacific. At Santa Cruz the air is different: light, salty, sparkling. You'll have lunch overlooking the sea, in a place where you'll want to stay longer than planned.

Then it's time to leave, driving along the ocean road on to Half Moon Bay, where the cliffs plunge in to the Pacific and the pace slows down by itself. There's nothing noisy here - and that's the point.

In the late afternoon, you'll reach San Francisco. The city is welcoming with its disorderly elegance, the steep streets, the bay. It's the right place to end this trip, because it needs no explanations.

You'll arrive back at port, with memories of the deserts, canyon, legendary routes and ocean all fresh in your mind. You began the year by crossing America. And you couldn't have chosen a better way to do it.
