Fancy going back in time? Walmer Castle opens its doors and gardens to you: discover how it feels to find yourself back in the time of the great lords, and in their house no less!

- Let's start with a tasty fact: this is where the famous sandwich was first made, 300 years ago!
- Step by step, you'll go back through the centuries: Strand street, the oldest in the city, and the cobbled streets of the center, will transport you back to 1155, when the towns of Dover, Hastings, Hythe, Romney and Sandwich formed the so-called Confederation of Cinque Ports, at the service of the king.
- Keep walking and you'll continue through history: admire the triumphal arch, a reminder of the Roman colony of 43 A.D., along with plenty of other gems just waiting to be discovered as you stroll around at your leisure.
- Now for a total change of scenery: plunge into eighteenth * and nineteenth-century England at Walmer Castle, commissioned by Henry VIII for defense purposes, then gradually transformed into the official residence of the Duke of Wellington, the official custodian of the Cinque Ports.
- Wander through its colorful interiors and among the plants in its large garden: are you starting to feel a little noble too?

- Just beyond the small town, your guide will introduce you to the most iconic sight of all: the white cliffs soaring above the water, a place that is close to the heart of the British people.
- First, you'll need to look up at them as you pass through the Samphire Hoe nature reserve, a "chunk" of land stolen from the sea during the construction of the Channel Tunnel. Did you know that it is named after a flower that was also familiar to William Shakespeare? Click, click, click!
- But now it's time to change perspective: the view from the top of the cliffs is...simply wow! Both ahead and behind you, kilometers of chalky rock rise up to a height of more than 120 meters, so white that they don't quite seem real.
- Keep your eyes peeled: on a clear day, you may be able to see and even photograph the coast of France. Meanwhile, your Dover Castle postcard is ready to go: it's right in front of you.
