Excursions that bring the spirit of travel to life
FUSHIMI INARI BY NIGHT: RED TORII, LANTERNS AND THE FLAVORS OF KYOTO
An iconic experience for you: get ready to visit the Fushimi Inari Shrine, after the sun goes down. You'll find yourself climbing a path lined with thousands of red torii gates, beneath the warm light of the lanterns, surrounded by silence and the fulfilled wishes of those who have passed before you. It's a journey between spirit, legend and wonder. And just when you think nothing could be better than this feeling…an authentic Japanese dinner arrives to bring the evening to a close in a poetic (and very tasty) way.
Main stops
- Evening visit to the Fushimi Inari shrine
- Climb up the path of the illuminated torii gates
- Views over the city at night
- Typical Japanese dinner in a local restaurant
The programme
If Kyoto is the cultural heart of Japan, Fushimi Inari is its mystical soul. This iconic shrine is dedicated to Inari, the deity of rice, harvest and farms! Here, every torii (the famous red gates) that you see along the path (and there are thousands!) is a donation from someone whose wish has been granted. A red tunnel pulsating with energy, gratitude and legend.
The icing on the cake? You'll visit in the evening, when the path is lit up with the soft light of lanterns that create a surreal atmosphere. The footpath climbs up the mountain, among steps, trees and evocative silences: it feels as if you're walking through an ancient Shinto fairytale (but with comfortable shoes!). And while you climb up, you'll be amazed by the views and by the lights of the city from above.
After this spiritual and photographic adventure, the gastronomic reward awaits you: a traditional Japanese dinner in a typical little local restaurant. Authentic flavors in a relaxed atmosphere which will make you fall even more in love with Kyoto.
Finally, return to the ship, and with the taste of dinner still on your tongue, you'll realize that you haven't just visited Kyoto.
You've tasted, breathed and lived it.

The programme
Day 1 – Hiroshima, where it all began You'll arrive in Hiroshima at high speed, on board the Shinkansen bullet train, before you make your way through the Peace Memorial Park, where every memorial represents a step in history. At the Children's Peace Monument, you will discover the sculpture of Sadako Sasaki and her origami cranes, while at the Peace Memorial Museum, photos and exhibits will take you back through the years. You'll finish up at the A-Bomb Dome, a dome that has become a symbol of resistance, and is now a UNESCO world heritage site.
Day 2 – The Japan of tradition at Itsukushima After spending the night in your exclusive hotel, you'll come face to face with Japanese tradition on the island of Miyajima. In the water, the torii awaits - the red gate that announces the entrance to the Itsukushima shrine. At high tide, bridges and buildings seem to float on the water, but a system of piles holds them up: an optical illusion that conveys a sense of calm and serenity. Before leaving, a trek on mount Misen will offer you a final view over the bay of Hiroshima.
Day 3 – Nagasaki, memory and reconstruction At the Nagasaki Peace Park you'll go back in time to 1945 with the museum of the atomic bomb. But the city is also home to evidence of reconstruction and survival: Urakami Cathedral, which has now been rebuilt, and the torii gate of the Sanno shrine, whose only pillar withstood the impact. Your journey is nearly over: after the Dejima Museum and the Glover Garden it's time to go back to the ship.
