In a nutshell

Set off on foot to discover Ilha Grande, and the history and natural paradise of Vila do Abraão. First stop is Praia Preta, the “black beach” of sparkling quartz, perfect for a swim. We'll then continue to Caminho da Colina to the ancient aqueduct, freshening up at the mini-waterfall at Cachoeira da Poção. With footpaths, beaches and waterfalls, the last stop is at the Church of San Sebastiano, before heading back to the port: Ilha Grande will leave you with your heart full and your feet wet.

The programme
  • We start our lovely walk to get to know the places of interest and admire the natural beauties of Vila do Abraão with our guide, who provides us with interesting information on the eventful past of what is now considered an ecological paradise.
  • We stop for a dip in waters of the heavenly Praia Preta, i.e. “black beach”, named after the colour of its quartz-rich sand.
  • We then restart our walk along Caminho da Colina as far as the old aqueduct, followed by another stop to cool down with a dip at Cachoeira da Poção.
  • On our way back to Abraão, before heading to the port, we also visit the charming Church of Saint Sebastian, built over 150 years ago.
Good to know
  • Do not forget to bring swimwear, a towel and sun cream.
  • The excursion is only recommended to people used to long walks.
  • Comfortable shoes are recommended.

Hop on board an escuna (a typical local sailing boat) at Vila do Abraão and let the sea take you to the wild heart of Ilha Grande! After sailing through its turquoise waters, you'll make landfall for a hike through the Atlantic forest, with tropical sounds, intense scents and lush vegetation. The footpath leads you to Lopes Mendes beach, where relaxation is a must: white sand, clear waters and total freedom. Swim, wander, breathe...here, paradise sways to the rhythm of the ocean!

The programme
  • At Vila do Abraão we will board an escuna, a typical local boat that will take us to the north of Ilha Grande.
  • When we get off the boat, we will begin our walking excursion through the heart of the Atlantic forest, which will end at Lopes beach. This is one of the most beautiful and popular beaches on the island, with white sand and clear waters. We can decide whether to dive in and explore the underwater life, stroll along the beach or simply relax.

  • Comfortable hiking shoes are recommended.
  • Portuguese and Spanish speaking guides only.
  • Do not forget to bring swimwear, a towel and sun cream.
  • There are no bars, restaurants or toilets on the beach.
  • The tour is not suitable for the elderly or guests with mobility problems.
  • Due to boat traffic in Abraao, embarkation and disembarkation may be delayed during the summer season.

On board our escuna, the typical Brazilian schooner, you'll explore Ilha Grande: once a refuge for pirates and slaves, it's now a natural paradise with crystal-clear waters and incredible beaches. First stop is Lagoa Azul, for snorkeling amongst tropical fish, corals and starfish…and with a bit of luck, you might spot a curious turtle too! Then, it's time for relaxation and swimming at Freguesia de Santana, before heading back via Saco do Céu and Praia do Amor. Nature, sea and dreamy views: Brazil at its bluest awaits you!

The programme
  • We board our escuna, a sort of barquetine typical of Brazil equipped with restrooms and bar service, that makes us discover amazing beaches while entertaining us with traditional music.
  • Upon arriving at Lagoa Azul, we can admire the beauty of this small bay with its crystal-clear water, corals, tropical fish and starfish. We stop for some snorkelling and, with a bit of luck, we might be able to see marvellous sea turtles.
  • Our next stop will ba at Freguesia de Santana beach where we can relax and swim in the crystal waters.
  • We will sail back spotting Saco do Céu and Praia do Amor before heading back to the port.

  • We recommend that you book early because only a limited number of places are available.
  • This excursion does not feature a guide.
  • The bar service is not included in the price of the excursion, but you can pay in Real or Dollars.
  • The itinerary may be subject to change depending on weather conditions or for safety reasons.
  • To disembark in Lagoa Azul, you need to dive into the water, which is at least 3 metres deep.

Hop on board a motorboat and speed along with wild coast of Ilha Grande, between secret coves and dreamy bays. At Lagoa Azul and Lagoa Verde, the water calls out to you to dive on in: slip on your mask and snorkel and set off for some snorkeling amongst green coral, tropical fish and maybe even the odd curious turtle. But the island is also home to a jungle brimming with life: monkeys, hummingbirds and parrots color the sky above the rainforest.   • Riding the waves on a motorboat, you'll reach the hidden bays of Ilha Grande, amid islets and coves that will plunge you into the wildest nature.
  • As soon as you arrive at Lagoa Azul and Lagoa Verde, their warm waters and sea colors will leave you no choice: It's time for snorkeling amid the green corals found on their seabed. What will you spot? Tropical fish, sea turtles or starfish?
  • But Ilha Grande's nature is not just about beaches and sea. You're in one of the few places in the world where the rainforest is still thriving and intact. Keep your eyes open: You might get a glimpse of the monkeys, humming birds and Amazonian parrots that inhabit the island.
  • More diving at Saco do Céu: Here, the sea is so tranquil that it feels like swimming in a lake. The perfect hideout... for pirates, too!

  • With their tranquil waters and shallow seabeds, the Cataguás and Botinas islands are the ideal locations to swim over the coral reef barrier at your own leisure, amid shoals of tropical fish and plenty of starfish.
  • Then, on Gipóia island, discover Dentist's Beach and enjoy its white sand and tranquil sea, while the small colonial-style church on Piedade Beach offers panoramic views over the ocean: Stroll around to capture the landscape from different perspectives.
  • A last dive in the waters of Lagoa Azul is a must to beautifully end this aquatic adventure.
