End up in the French Concession, then off along Wujiang Road: Here, Wang Jia Sha's legendary xiao long baos await you. Proceed on Fuzhou Road, amid bookstores, workshops and an irresistible lamb skewer, to the elegant The Press, a restored old printing press where you end the tour with a cup of tea and a sweet treat.

Main stops
  • Visit Taoyuan Village and taste some xian dou jiang
  • Local Yuyao Road market
  • Wujiang Road, in the French Concession district
  • At Wang Jia Sha, you enjoy some xiao long baos
  • Fuzhou Road (book street), where you taste a lamb skewer
  • The Press

The programme

Get ready to turn Shanghai into your outdoor buffet. The tour starts from Taoyuan Village, where the city welcomes you with some xian dou jiang: A savory breakfast including soybean curd served with small pieces of fried dough, spicy oil, dried seaweed and spring onions, which will wake up even the sleepiest participants. From here, slip into the local Yuyao Road market, a microcosm of traditional authentic flavors: Crowded stalls, intense scents, ingredients that narrate Shanghai's cuisine better than any guidebook.

Then, end up in the French Concession, an elegant district with tree-lined avenues and retro apartment blocks, and continue to Wujiang Road, the undisputed temple of street food. Here, the undisputed top eatery is called Wang Jia Sha. Order its iconic xiao long baos and learn how to eat them: Make a hole, taste the boiling broth, then bite into the thin dough, together with some rice vinegar and slivers of ginger. A simple gesture that narrates centuries of tradition. While you're here, treat yourself to some sesame tangyuans too – soft, sweet and perfect to end the dumpling course.

The trip continues to Fuzhou Road, where amid giant bookstores and historic workshops you find one of the most irresistible Chinese street food's temptations: Lamb skewers. Spicy and steaming hot, it's proof that street food doesn't need any frills to conquer you.

And when you think it's all over, here's the last course: The Press. Inside the historic Shun Pao building from 1872: A cupola in Neoclassical style, mosaic flooring and an atmosphere that blends old-time elegance with contemporary vibes. Sit down, sip a coffee or an iced tea, taste a dessert and let your palate absorb the last chapter of your itinerant tasting tour.

A tour that not only fills you up: It changes your perspective, one bite at a time.

Reach the Shanghai Tower, the glass and steel giant that overlooks Pudong like a futuristic guardian, the second highest tower in the world. From here, the city is at your feet. Then, glide along the Huangpu River on a cruise, to discover the lit up city from a different point of view. Main stops

  • Cruise on the Huangpu river
  • The Bund: Walk along the river

The programme

Set off with a purpose: Enter Shanghai's electric night. Start at the Shanghai Tower, the enormous spiral that coils up into the sky like a caress. From down here, you see who rules Pudong right away: 127 floors, futuristic lines, a heart of glass that narrates a city always on the run (and it's the second highest in the world). Inside, you breathe in motion as part of a wholly vertical world. From here, the lit up city is at your feet and you can't avoid its allure.

Then, a change of pace – glide on the Huangpu River on a cruise: The water turns into a dark ribbon on which colorful reflections and skyscrapers dance, as the river takes you across the most authentic side of Shanghai.

Last stop: The Bund. Here, the city strikes a pose, but without losing its grit. On one side, the historic facades echo other eras; on the other, Pudong's skyline looks like a scream from the future. A silent duel, lit up and magnetic.

Brush against the Ming and Qing buildings along Xing Road, get lost in Kezhi Garden amid classical details and Western touches. Then, a change of pace: Glide on a boat under the stone bridges to the legendary Fangsheng Bridge, with the sculpted dragons and lions guiding you. • The post office built in the Qing dynasty era
  • Cruise on the town's canals
  • Traditional lunch
  • Bei Dajie Street: Free time and shopping

The programme

Step away from the center of Shanghai's frenetic life and reach Zhujiajiao water town, and ancient town that extends for approximately 3 square kilometers in the Qingpu district. Here, numerous canals interweave amid the alleys, creating a unique atmosphere, loved by locals too, of course.

Admire the ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties on Xing Road, until you reach Kezhi Garden, a splendid botanic garden with an amazing mix of traditional and Western architectural features. Then move on to the ancient post office from the Qing era, still perfectly preserved today and a site for exhibitions.

A change of pace, yet still amazing. Jump on a boat for a brief cruise on the canals that cross the town, with ancient stone bridges, some of which so narrow that they can only be crossed on foot. Among them, the most famous is the Fangsheng Bridge, 70 meter long and supported by five symmetrical arches: Built in 1571 at the behest of monk Xingchao, it was rebuilt in 1814. The central arch is embellished with a stone relief showing eight dragons surrounding a pearl, while the columns at the sides feature carved lions that welcome visitors with a smile.

A traditional lunch to recharge the batteries awaits you, before going for a stroll and a bit of shopping in the small stores on Bei Dajie Street, Zhujiajiao's main road.
